web application for automating reference lists in student papers
Help students and researchers, relieve them from the routine sorting of reference lists, and save them 2 to 8 hours of work.
About the project. The product is a web application for automatic formatting of bibliographies according to GOST. It is intended to replace manual work when preparing academic and scientific papers. The user uploads a DOCX file and receives a ready document with correctly formatted bibliography and synchronized literature references in the text. A customer‑development test (N = 50+) was conducted, confirming the relevance of the development, and there is a VBA prototype demonstrating the key algorithm of automatic renumbering of references when sorting sources. Technical solution of the project: The project is a web service with a client‑server architecture. The interface (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) implements a minimalist DOCX‑file upload page. The server side is written in Python using the Django framework. The main technical idea is automatic analysis of the document structure, extraction of bibliographic references, and formation of a bibliography list according to GOST with synchronized numbering in the text. Design features: 1. The python-docx library is used for reading and modifying DOCX files without loss of formatting. 2. The algorithmic core contains formalized GOST rules (7.0.5–2008, 7.0.100–2018, 7.0.108–2022) and performs: - parsing references in the text; - sorting sources (alphabetically or by order of mention); - automatic renumbering of the list and in‑text citations. 3. The modular architecture allows adding support for new standards and formats (APA, MLA, etc.). After processing, the user downloads the ready DOCX file with correctly formatted references and bibliography. The technical part may undergo further refinements.
